All About Grey
You know how much I love spinels. They come in such an endlessly intriguing array of natural colors! Spinels are mostly found in Asia and Africa and this particular one is Burmese, from the Mogok Valley. Interesting fact: spinels and rubies are often found together and historically red spinels were thought to be rubies.
Sometimes when I talk with my artist friends I can get very excited about the color grey. It’s such a beautiful and subtly varied color, made by mixing complementary colors just right. I’ve spent hours happily mixing the perfect grey. It’s such a satisfying feeling to get it right. The grey of this spinel is one of those perfect greys. It was only fitting to set it in this 18k red-gold setting, to bring out its rosy tones. Let’s not get too carried away though! A platinum bezel keeps the colors in perfect check.
